Exam Description
The second part of the ORE consists of four components. Each of the components is critical to the overall success during the exam. It is designed for candidates to demonstrate their clinical practical skills as well as theory.

1-Dental Manikin
Candidates are allocated three hours in which you are supposed to carry out three clinical procedures on dental Manikin. The three procedures entail preparing and restoring teeth (Two major & one Minor exercises as per GDC Consortium)
2-Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE)
This is where candidates visit a series of ‘stations’ which test their clinical skills. These may include history-taking and assessment, communication skills (such as an explanation of problems and treatment plans), judgement and decision making, ethics and attitudes, and clinical examination.
The OSCE exam consists of a single continuous session of up to 2½ hours. A maximum of 3 circuits will be held in a day. During the session candidates will complete a circuit of up to 24 stations. Each station lasts 6 minutes: one minute is set aside for reading the question and instructions and 5 minutes allowed for answering the case or performing the required task.
3-Diagnostic and treatment planning exercise (DTP)
DTP exercise is a simulated clinical assessment of patient management and care. You will be assessed in 5 separate aspects (which we will cover in course). The examination will be completed during a 54-minute session. In order to help you with your time keeping you will be given a clock with the various sections of the exam marked. You will be
assessed at your overall Professionalism during the examination and your communication skills both verbal, non-verbal and clinical judgement.

4-Medical Emergencies (ME)
This assessment consists of two parts:
- A structured Medical emergencies scenario-based oral viva exam –8 minutes
- Demonstration of single-handed basic life support. This will include cardiopulmonary resuscitation using a resuscitation manikin—5 minutes.
Exam Information:
- You will be allowed four attempts for Part 2.
- For each examination period, a maximum of 144 candidates are able to undertake the Part 2 exam.
- There are currently four diets of ORE-2 in 2025 (January- March- April- September)
